Presque Isle County Historical Museum

Vote Yes on the Historic Millage and Save Our Museums

When you cast your vote on the upcoming 0.25 mill museum initiative, you are voting to safeguard our local historical treasures and keep our community’s heritage alive. A funding gap threatens the operational hours and upkeep of our historic artifacts and sites. Passing this millage is necessary to prevent a budget shortfall and keep our museum doors open.

This millage will impact the Presque Isle County Historical Museum, the Great Lakes Lore Museum, and the Onaway Area Historical Museum.

Our museum as part of our community

In addition to housing the artifacts, documents, and photos of our amazing history, the Presque Isle County Historical Museum offers events and services that engage the community and bolster tourism efforts.

USSCGC Sundew Visits Rogers City, Honored in Proclamation Service

Ceremony attended by 150+, garners the attention of nearly 250,000 media-consuming Northern Michigan residents

The vessel that heroically rescued the only survivors of the USS Carl D. Bradley visited Rogers City, the result of an amazing joint effort between our museum and the Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum. A touching and meaningful ceremony ended with the Bradley’s bell, salvaged from the wreck in 2007, rung 33 times for each sailor lost.

Ceremonies for the Bradley, the Edmund Fitzgerald, the Daniel Morrell, and the Cedarville, are all held annually by the Great Lakes Lore Museum, giving those who lost their loved ones an opportunity to gather, remember, and share memories.

Rogers City Remembers

Since 2011, the museum has shared daily images, fed by an archive of tens of thousands of photos of Rogers City and Presque Isle County.  The museum has been entrusted with their care, preservation, cataloging, and storage, daily posts have brought together reminiscing residents young and old.

Annual Quarry Tours

Bus Tours Through Historic Calcite for Hundreds of Tourists

Each year, the museums arrange tours of the world’s largest limestone quarry, an event that hundreds of residents and tourists have attended over the years. Access to the quarry is rare and the museums facilitate this treat. The community is quick to capitalize on the opportunity.

Santa at the Bradley

An historic setting for a visit to St Nick - visitors nearly doubled in 2025

The Bradley House is beautifully decorated for the holidays, and there’s no better place for kids to visit Santa. Families take the opportunity to snap a holiday photo and enjoy the holiday scenery. The event runs every Saturday in December leading up to the week of Christmas.

Geneology Research Room

Resources available to discover your Presque Isle County roots.

The King Room, located in the museum’s annex, is a great source of photos, documents, county cemetery records, and military books. It’s available to researchers during the museum’s open hours and by request when the museum is closed.

Please support us in preserving our history

While the museums do extensive fundraising, it isn’t supporting the museums’ needs. This millage will ensure that the Presque Isle Historical Museum, The Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum, and the Onaway Area Historical Museum will have adequate funding to remain open and provide continued educational resources, economic growth, social connection, and cultural preservation.

If the millage doesn't pass, the museums will have to downsize, shorten operational hours, and possibly close.
